يقول العقاد في مقدمة كتابه: (جحا الضاحك المضحك): «الكلمة أكبر الفتوح الإنسانية في عالم الكشف والاختراع، لو لم يخترعها الإنسان لوجب أن يخترع ما يساويها وينوب عنها؛ لأنه لا حياة له بغير التفاهم بينه وبين أبناء نوعه، ولا تفاهم على شيء من الأشياء بغير الكلمة أو ما يدل دلالتها..».غير أن هذا الكتاب لا يقف عند الجمل الساخرة أو المضحكة في صورتها الفردية، إنه ينطلق في بحث البنية الكلية للنص عامة، وسمات الكتابة الساخرة بوجه عام، وفي سبيل ذلك يختط لنفسه طريقًا جديدًا، وإجراءات متنوعة بغية كشف الظاهرة وتحليلها من خلال بنائها اللغوي المحكم، فهو إذن بحث في البنية النصية للأدب الساخر ولأديب بعينه.وفي أسباب التحديد الصرف السابق نلمح إلى رغبتنا في تجلية البنية الكلية للنصوص الساخرة مع التأكيد على أن أنواع النصوص المختارة هي لكاتب لا يحتفي أصلًا بالبنية النصية المتعارف عليها، ويكتب عبر أكثر من بنية إبداعية جديدة واضحة، بل ويضع تحديدًا من عنده لبعض أنواعها مثل، بنية الألبوم التي كتب عليها، ووضع لها تصنيفًا نصيًّا جديدًا لم يسبق إليه، ذلك أن أغلب النصوص السردية المعمول بها في الذاكرة النصية العربية هي المقال والقصة والرواية والمسرحية والحكاية والترجمة، والسير- التي خرج من رحمها الكثير من الطرق والمدارج والألوان، مثل أدب الرحلات، وأدب الاعترافات والبحث أو الوصف الذاتي والتجربة الذاتية والتجربة الغيرية، والحوارات الشخصية والخاطرة الذاتية والذكريات والرسائل الشخصية، ورواية، التجربة الذاتية والتجربة الغيرية والسيرة الذاتية، والسيرة الذاتية الروائية، وسيرة المكان، والمذكرات واليوميات.. إلخ
