Reviews-
September 1, 2015 Grades K-2 Each book in the Amazing Inventions series explores one very general category of invention. The small books are an inviting size for young hands, and the short text and bright photos are equally child-friendly. Each book presents several different varieties of the invention, either in general or over time, as well as a simple overview of its history and basic workings. Big, beautiful photos include both shots of the inventions themselves and cheerful depictions of children using them. Most of the facts are very general, but children will likely be intrigued by the ones that include simple specifics or slightly more sophisticated vocabulary. Phonograph, introducing a machine that is likely unfamiliar to most readers, covers its parts, including the needle, horn or speakers, and cylinder or flat record. Overall, young children will likely both learn a little from and enjoy these books.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
